Moving Words Poetry Competition

The Literary Centre, a Singaporean not-for-profit organisation has initiated a new project in collaboration with SMRT- Moving Words 2011 - to feature poetry written by Singaporeans in SMRT trains and stations.The Moving Words Poetry Competition is calling for entries that will stand to get displayed in the SMRT network and published in the Moving Words Anthology to be launched at the Singapore Writers' Festival.

Entries in four languages are allowed - English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. However, non-English entries must be accompanied by an English translation. Deadline for receipt of Completed Entry Documents for the 2011 competition: 31 May 2011.

Entry to the competition is open to all aged 18 or above on the date they sign the Entry Documents, irrespective of residence, nationality or citizenship.

The Proverse Prize is offered for a single-author unpublished full-length work of fiction, non-fiction or poetry, submitted in English. Genres accepted include novels, novellas, short-story collections, poetry collections and non-fiction including but not limited to autobiography, biography, memoir, diaries, essay-collections, journals, letters, works of popular scholarship. (Translations are welcome. Work may be previously edited, acknowledging the editor.)

The entry fee is HK$200 or GBP30.

The first prize is publication of the entered work and HK$10,000, (HKD7.80 = US$1.00). Additional publication prizes may be awarded.

Three Cha contributors named finalists for the 2010 HKU Poetry Prize

We are very pleased to announce that Cha contributors W.F. Lantry (Jewel Tones), Jason Lee (Beds in the East and Other Poems) and Ling Hoi Ching (A Seed and a Plant) are three of the five finalists for the inaugural HKU Poetry Prize. Congratulations!

Haiku competition

Times Are Tough; Talk Is Cheap

At a recent poetry reading, a poet gave a five-minute introduction to a haiku. Absurdities not being lost on us, we began generating our own haiku responses. We invite you to join us in the first Off the Coast poetry competition.

Entry fee is 25¢ for each haiku and multiple entries are encouraged. Deadline is January 17, 2011 and the winners will be announced on February 2, 2011. First prize is $5. 75. They are working on securing a high-profile judge to make the final decisions. Learn more about the competition here.
