Wolfnotes exhibition


From the Wolfnotes website:
Wolfnotes is an exhibition that reflects upon the relations between literature and the other arts. 6 local and Singapore-based artists were invited to respond creatively to the writings of Singaporean authors published by firstfruits publications. Using image and sound to articulate their responses to words, these artists embody the ways in which literary works move us to feel, to think, to wonder, and to invent. The artists are Ernest Chan, Khiew Huey Chian, Joyce Beetuan Koh, John Stewart Jackson, Susie Wong, Ye Shufang. The authors they chose: Boey Kim Cheng, Madeleine Lee, Enoch Ng, Daren Shiau, Yeo Wei Wei, Yong Shu Hoong.

Daren Shiau's prose poems have been published in issue #5 of Cha.

9 March 2010 Day One Theme: Teaching Creative Writing in the Academy

9:00am: Welcome by Kingsley Bolton, Chair Professor of English & English Department Head at The City University of Hong Kong.
9:15am: Keynote address: Robin Hemley (University of Iowa. Director, Nonfiction Writing Program)
10:00am-12:00am: Roundtable led by teachers of creative writing who will give short provocative papers (10 mins) leading to interactive discussion with participants. Provocateurs: Andrew Cowan(University of East Anglia, Director of the Creative Writing), Catherine Cole (RMIT University, Professor of Creative Writing), Nury Vittachi (Hong Kong Polytechnic University, teaches storyline), Alex Kuo (Washington State University, Writer-in-Residence & Professor of English), Simone Lazaroo (Murdoch University, Senior Lecturer Creative Writing), Jon Cook – (University of East Anglia, Professor of English) – Moderated by Xu Xi.

An additional session is offered across the Chinese border at the Zhuihai campus of Sun Yat-Sen University, one hour by ferry from Hong Kong. This can be arranged on request thanks to an invitation by the university’s Chair of the Department of English, Dai Fan, who is teaching one of the first creative writing programs in English in China, started in September 2009. Her invitation is to international teachers of creative writing in the academy willing to talk to her students. Those who join us are responsible for obtaining their own China visa. Numbers limited.
