Gillian Sze in Room Magazine

Gillian Sze's three new poems "This is How You Turn the Soil", "21st Ave." and "Sonnet VI" are now published in the latest issue (Vol. 31.4) of Room Magazine. "Sonnet II", published in issue #6 of Cha, is from the same Sonnet series.

Gillian Sze's poetry has been published in issue #5 and issue #6 of Cha. She will serve as the guest editor (issue#10 February 2010) of the journal.

Issue#7 Mud Luscious


The seventh issue of Mud Luscious (editor: J.A. Tyler) is now live. It features work by Peter Berghoef, Sean Ruane, Jennifer Pieroni, Sara Reihani, P. H. Madore, C. L. Bledsoe, Nathaniel Tower, Molly Gaudry, Ryan W. Bradley, Ravi Mangla, Shome Dasgupta, Sean Lovelace, David Erlewine, Zachary C. First HKU Poetry Prize

NOTE: The deadline for entry has been extended. New deadline: April 1, 2010. Read more about the prize here. The University of Hong Kong School of English & The Hong Kong University Press are proud to present the HKU Poetry Prize. This inaugural award welcomes submissions worldwide. The winner will receive HK$2,500 and publication of a first collection of poems with The Hong Kong University Press.

The judge in 2010 is Cha contributor Louise Ho, whose Incense Tree (HKU Press) has recently been launched in Hong Kong. Poets writing in English who have not previously published, or self-published, a full-length collection of poems are eligible to submit to The HKU Poetry Prize. Luisa Igloria wins 2009 Sandeen Prize


Luisa Igloria is the winner of the University of Notre Dame's 2009 Sandeen Prize for her collection of poetry, Juan Luna's Revolver.


The Sandeen Prize, which began in 1996, is awarded biannually to an author who has already published at least one volume of poetry. The winner receives a thousand dollars and publication by the University of Notre Dame Press. Read more here.

Mike Farman's current translation projects

Mike Farman is currently working on two anthologies of translations from Classical Chinese. The first is a new translation of the "300 Tang Poems" begun by Geoffrey Waters before his untimely death in 2007. Mike is working with David Lunde, Jerome Seaton and Dennis Maloney to complete the anthology, which is due for publication by White Pine in 2010. The second project is an anthology of celebrated Chinese women poets. For this he is collaborating with Jeanne Larsen and Emily Goedde. This anthology will also be published by White Pine in 2011.
